This is a short, concise book, written in 1984 with forwards from the 2019 and 2005 reprints. Steve Cohen comprehensively skewers left-wing antisemitism from the point of view of a British revolutionary socialist with true communist bona fides. Much of this was an elucidation of things I had observed myself, but I also gained new insights into the history of European and specifically British antisemitism, and details of the long history of antisemitism in left groups. Much of this was an elucidation of things I had observed myself, but I also gained new insights into the history of European and specifically British antisemitism, and details of the long history of antisemitism in left groups. My sole criticism is that while the book is mostly highly readable, as a dyed in the wool leftist Cohen sometimes falls into jargon assuming his readers are also familiar with the nuances of the dialectic. My copy was provided for free by the Jewish Labour Movement, which I am an ally member of & highly recommend along with this book.

The book is a must read on left antisemitism, the only issue is that it I really fragmented and meandering. The content is so important that you should overlook that.
Interesting book for someone interested in politics though relies on trying to be a bit too academic in terms of getting the argument across in regards to how left wingers can be anti Semitic. Very interesting and shows that the threat to Jews does not just come from fascism but within left wing organisations.
This is an excellent book on the history of antisemitism on the left with a focus on the UK, though other countries are focused on.It was written in 1984, but is still relevant today.
I do not agree with everything as Steve is a revolutionary socialist and I feel he lumps on all of right wing though with facism.

For a book written in a different political context almost 40 years ago, so much of this polemic against left-wing antisemitism remains both powerful and true today. At times I had to stop to remember the date of publication when, for instance, references to the Soviet government of Poland sit next to quotes that sound as if they could've come from sections of today's left.
